I'm totally with you on your comments here... fundamentalist christian ministry has become one of the worst scams and rackets in the US. Unfortunately, its taken over our government as well (for only a while, hopefully).
I've been in touch with Zach ever since the whole LIA thing happened. I'm happy to tell you that he lived at home with his parents through the rest of high school, laying low, keeping many of his thoughts to himself, but never pretending to be someone other than who he is to them. He did the church-y things they wanted him to do, but kept that in perspective, so he figured out how to get along with them and they treated him with some respect. He even had a couple of boyfriend relationships through his last years of high school. He's now in college, living with another family in his college town who are 100% supportive of his sexuality. Their own son is one of zach's closest friends. I've encouraged him to consider publicly talking about his circumstance at this point in his life, but hes not yet ready. But I can reassure you he's doing well and was unswayed by the LIA experience though I imagine he'll discover ways it affected him as he grows. He wants to maintain a solid relationship with his parents, and is working to do that.
